Shahid and Deepika make a great pair Monday, November 30, 2009, 10:28 [IST]

Ever since Deepika Padukone broke up with Ranbir Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor with Priyanka Chopra, Karan Johar has been inundated with requests from Bollywood fans from all over the world to pair them together in one of his next productions.

Says a source, "Ever since Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir began working together in Sajid Nadiadwala's Anjaana Anjani, KJo has been flooded with requests from people on Twitter asking him to cast their ex-flames Deepika and Shahid as a jodi. It's as if people want Deepika and Shahid now to pair up together on screen at least, if not in real life as both are single and ready to mingle."

KJo admits, "A barrage of people from all over the world are asking me to take Shahid and Deepika in my next film. Ironically, they are both actors I have not worked with. I would love to do a film with them together. I have no idea as to what kind of film it will be whether a love story or serious drama. They are both a fresh pair who haven't worked together. Shahid and Deepika make a great pair! I loved Kaminey and Shahid's work in the film. I think it's Shahid's career-best performance and Deepika too is a beautiful and extremely poised individual."

Karan has become a fan of Twitter (he has almost 40,000 followers) and has encouraging many of his star friends to join. He says, "It is very entertaining to get feedback from people all over the world. Now all my friends from Abhishek (Bachchan) to Riteish (Deshmukh) and Preity (Zinta) and Priyanka (Chopra) are on it. Many actors feel shy of getting onto a social network platform as they don't want to be accessible but I feel it's the age of accessibility today. I encourage all mainstream artistes to use it as a third platform to get instant feedback. In fact, I have been trying to get Shahrukh on Twitter but haven't been successful so far."

London, Dubai premieres of ‘Paa’ cancelled

London premieres of Amitabh Bachchan’s film Paa have been cancelled, but the superstar says he is looking forward to the Mumbai event that will be attended by Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.

“The London and Dubai premiere have been cancelled. Several issues have cropped up and it would not be prudent to go ahead with it under such uncertain pressures and circumstances, Amitabh posted on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com.

“But Mumbai premiere is on at the IMAX Wadala on Dec 3 and Aamir and Shah Rukh have assured me of their presence there, he added.

Apart from promotional events of Paa, Amitabh is also busy preparing for Bachchan Sandhya, an event to mark the 102nd birth anniversary of his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan on Nov 28.

“The arrangements, the invitees, the program and its functions, rehearsals for the recitation and getting the family to gear up for its participation is also keeping me busy, he wrote.

The Bollywood merry go around

Raj Kapoor’s famous ditty Dost Dost Na Raha can ring true for so many in Bollywood.
Shah Rukh Khan
Shah Rukh Khan More Pics

Akshay Kumar and Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor and Anupam Kher are some recent examples of friendships that have gone sour. The quest for name, fame and money has driven a wedge between friends. Down the years, one has seen many close relationships fall by the wayside like dry leaves, bereft of emotion. But an interesting phenomenon is now on the rise. Having watched countless friends turn foes, what is interesting now is to watch the reverse. Foes turning into friends.

When Hrithik Roshan blazed into Bollywood with Kaho Na Pyaar Hai in 2000, he almost wrested the reigning Badshah Shah Rukh Khan’s throne. With the paparazzi adding to their woes SRK and Duggu started out on a wrong foot. And SRK, who was hanging mid-air at a Filmfare Awards’ night event, joked saying, “Come Hrithik... come and pull me down.” However, that was another day. Today both Duggu and SRK are bonding big time. Sources say, “Every other night, the King and the Prince are dining together.’’ What makes their friendship more special is the fact that the girls, Gauri Khan and Sussanne Roshan, are also thick.

Aamir Khan admits that he didn’t approve of Salman Khan’s cavalier attitude to his work when they were filming Andaz Apna Apna. Said Aamir, “I even ticked Salman, Raveena Tandon and Paresh Rawal off during AAA because they had issues to resolve with the producer. And, they were treating the project badly.’’ Today Salman and Aamir are very good friends. Salman’s sketches on the Ghajini superstar are the piece de resistance at Aamir’s residence, and the boys often bond over a drink when AK’s wife Kiran Rao is out on her work assignment. Aamir even said, “That confrontation we had years ago has actually strengthened our bond.’’

Akshay Kumar admits that Suniel Shetty and he shared a hate-love relationship when they started out and now they have a love-love relationship which was in full force during the shoot of De Dhana Dan. Suniel said, “We were immature, yaar, now we’re men in our 40s. Where is the question of us fighting? It all seems so silly. Akki and I are not the best of friends but we do enjoy a camaraderie that is there for everyone to see.’’

If the Bollywood men are bonding big time, the women too have left their previous grievances aside and become friends. Kareena Kapoor and Bipasha Basu who argued like cats during Ajnabi are now friends. And so are Bebo and Preity Zinta.

Guess when the boys and the girls realise that they aren’t hunting the same game, they let their guard down.

PAA - Trailer

Paa - trailer 2

Preity Zinta more than just a ‘dumb actress’

Preity Zinta is hard at work, proving to herself and her fellow students that there is more to her than the bubbly Indian actress label. Yes, Preity has taken herself and her dimples to get some education and what better place to prove her intellectual mettle than Harvard University in the US. Preity just took to her twitter account to tweet, “Stepped into the Harvard campus with the biggest smile !

Saw my course and homework and got a heart attack !Now i am the official book worm!” She added, “good night everyone ! I need to work hard otherwise i will be seen as a dumb actress …. and that cannot happen so wish me luck ! muaah !”

The pretty Preity has enrolled in a course on Negotiations and The Deal Process! So I guess all her future producers and directors should watch out!

Preity Zinta – As A Commercial Film Star With Saif Ali Khan Or ShahRukh Khan

As we have all heard that actress Preity Zinta will soon be forming her own Basketball team, some might have assumed that she was quitting films for good. But there’s news for all those fans of the bubbly actress. Preity is all set to come back as a commercial film star. She had conduted an online survey and asked her fans with which actor would they like to see her. Not very surprisingly, there has been a tie between Saif Ali Khan and ShahRukh Khan.

It seems that our dear actress has tasted so much success in the IPL that she need not worry about her future at all at least financially.

So we are confused, will she really go ahead with her Basketball team dream project? Of course said a socially active scribe, Preity is a total games person. She has been a gymnast for almost 11 years, she has done Karate for nine years, and she is a very good baskettball player as well as being a good rifle shooter also. God! Preity, how on earth did you manage to learn all that?

We are certainly impressed and may God give you all the success in whatever you do and the courage to go after your dreams.

Preity prefers Shillong over Switzerland

Preity Zinta, who shot for her film Har Pal in Shillong, is in love with this mountain resort.

During a recent media interaction Preity, who is from Himachal Pradesh, said she has always been fond of places that have a natural beauty about them. She fails to understand why Bollywood folk fly to Switzerland to show exotic locations on screen. Instead, Preity recommends they book tickets to Shillong. She also added that given a chance, she will shoot one of her next films in the North East of India because it has so much unexplored beauty.

Preity Zinta vows to fight against child trafficking

Preity Zinta, Ajay Devgn, Shabana Azmi, Katrina Kaif
, Javed Akthar, Sunil Shetty and wife Mana have pledged their support to Against Child Trafficking (ACT). They have promised to raise funds to rehabilitate the victims forced into trafficking.

Buzz up!
Sanjay Dutt, who is currently in Cape Town, South Africa, to attend an event, says, "Human trafficking is a serious concern. When Firoz Nadiadwala asked me to support the cause I immediately agreed. Being a part of the film industry
, it's our duty to help any way we can.

One of the plans we are discussing is to have a short clipping before all our movies which will create awareness for human trafficking. Also we are planning to get together to raise money through shows and events."

Suniel Shetty says, "It's a huge problem today with the girl child being kidnapped and sold for prostitution. But it's not enough to rescue them. We need to rehabilitate them as their parents refuse to accept them because of the social stigma. It's important to give them vocational training and make them self-confident."

Ajay Devgn adds, "Trafficking of human beings, is one of the fastest growing problems. India being no exception. We should all make an effort to eradicate human trafficking in our own ways." Katrina Kaif maintains, "Firoz Nadiadwala asked me to get involved and I think it's a great cause. Trafficking of the girl child is a serious cause for concern in today's times."

"My parents did not sell me and I was given an equal opportunity. I want to give a message to those people who live in villages, that if anyone approaches you and asks you to sell your child to them, telling you that they will provide them employment, please don't sell your child, because she is only going to be forced into either flesh trade or be forced to work
as domestic help in somebody's house.

Human trafficking is the selling of human beings. And I pledge to raise my voice against human trafficking. Join me in the crusade! Today, child trafficking has become a social evil around the world. It's time we took a stand and protected our future, because our children are our future."

Big B steals the show at Mumbai film fest

Amitabh Bachchan poses with Preity Zinta after he received the Lifetime Achievement award for completing 40 years in the film industry, during the grand finale of the 11th Mumbai Film Festival organised by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Images (MAMI) on Thursday.

Preity headed to Harvard for tips

Mumbai, Nov. 6: She is among the many Bollywood stars who have turned sports entrepreneur, but Preity Zinta means business: she is arming herself with knowledge gained from the hallowed portals of Harvard University.

Preity, the bubbly actress who co-owns the Indian Premier League team Kings XI Punjab, is heading for Harvard Business School for a week-long course on negotiations and deal making, skills she wants to hone for widening her base as a sports businesswoman.

“She will be at Harvard doing a one-week course between January 24–29, 2010, on negotiating and deal making,” confirmed a close aide of the actress. “Preity has paid a fee of $10,000 to attend the course and will live and eat on the campus with other students,” the aide added.

The actress has been spending a lot of time with her brother’s family in the US after her split with Ness Wadia, the Bombay Dyeing scion and her IPL business partner.

The intensive executive education programme is expected to equip the star with knowledge on the multiple dimensions of high-stakes negotiations. It involves learning through hands-on simulations as well as lectures, case studies and group discussions to help her cut the best deals.

All this is expected to aid Preity’s new business venture.

“As an extension of her interest in the sports business, Preity will launch an all- international girls’ basketball team called Dream Girls. The team will comprise female international film stars, sports personalities, models and socialites. She will captain the team herself and will get her girls trained by NBA professionals,” said the source.

The team will play with professional basketball teams around the world.

The star, who has developed a business model to monetise the project, will use television extensively for the new venture and the Harvard course is expected to help her run it.

There are many among Bollywood’s GenX, especially star sons and daughters, who went to study abroad: some persevered to get their degree while others opted out. But Preity has taken the lead in doing a business course, that too from the most august of institutions where, among others, Amartya Sen has been a teacher.

There is also the ubiquitous television reality show as a side dish to all this.

Preity, 34, will soon host and produce her own television show based on cricket called Behind the Seams which will feature Kings XI Punjab.

The actress is the latest among ageing stars who are opting for TV as they make way for Youngistan on the silver screen.

Preity Zinta To Enroll At HBS

Bollywood star will take course on negotiating, deal-making next month
Published On Friday, November 06, 2009 3:58 AM

Renowned Bollywood actress Preity Zinta is adding to her resume of blockbusters by enrolling in an executive course at Harvard Business School next month to study negotiating and deal-making, the Indian media reported this week.

Zinta, who already spends a significant amount of time in the United States, told the Indian media she decided to hit the books to enhance her experience in the country.

“I thought that since I spend so much time in the US, I might as well use the experience better,” Zinta said in an interview with Indian Express.

Zinta, who is recognizable by her right dimple, has starred in popular Hindi movies such as “Kal Ho Naa Ho,” “Veer-Zaara” and “Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.” She debuted in Bollywood over 10 years ago and currently appears on “Behind the Seams”—a reality television show that follows the lives of cricketers on the Kings XI Punjab team, of which Zinta is a part owner.

In previous interviews, Zinta has not explained her interest in coursework, and a spokesman at the Business School declined to comment further on her status as a student, citing privacy concerns.

Richard S. Delacy, a Harvard preceptor in Urdu-Hindi, said that Zinta has shown an appetite for tackling challenges in her acting career.

“She’s known to be one of the most intelligent actors in India,” Delacy said, describing Zinta as an “A-list star” comparable to Julia Roberts or Renee Zellweger. “She seems to be more of a thinking person based on the roles she’s taken.”

Bijoy M. Misra, outreach coordinator of the department of Sanskrit and Indian studies, said he was pleased to hear that Zinta will be studying at the Business School. It may benefit film stars to develop business skills and to involve themselves in a more intellectual environment, he said.

Students in the South Asian community at Harvard also expressed their excitement for Zinta’s arrival.

“Her attendance really shows how relevant a business education can be in various industries and in a global context,” wrote Monica Sharma, co-president of the Business School’s South-Asian Business Association, in an e-mailed statement.

Pyar Ka rishtaa Part 8

because some technical problem on youtube my video blocked in some country ^^'

so I decided to upload it on my facebook :D

I hope you like it

Preity Zinta supports campaign against child trafficking

Mumbai, Nov 6 (ANI): Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has joined the fight against child trafficking by lending
support to a campaign along with Melanne Verveer, the US Ambassador-at-large for global women's issues at an event held here on Thursday.

The campaign called 'Against Child Trafficking' or A.C.T is an initiative of a non-profit organisation by the same name.

Zinta urged the millions of villagers across the country not to be lured by money and sell off their children.

"I want to give a message to those people who live in villages, that if anyone approaches you and asks you to sell your child to them, telling you that they will provide them employment, please don't sell your child, because she is only going to be forced into either flesh trade or be forced to work as domestic help in somebody's house," said Zinta.

Child trafficking is a global problem, affecting large number of children worldwide.

According to estimates, around 1.2 million children are trafficked every year. Also, about 44 million, or 13 percent of all children in south Asia, are engaged in labour, with more than half in India.

Trafficking of children for labour, prostitution or domestic services is widespread, especially within Bangladesh and India as well as to Europe and the Middle East. (ANI)

Preity wants to play ball!

Preity Zinta has not hung up her designer boots and called it quits, on the contrary she’s put on sports shoes now.

The actress who was away from Bollywood for “just six weeks and has not migrated to LA”, came up with the idea of making money for her charity by forming an all-international girls’ basketball squad called the Dream Girls team.

“The players will be internationally-famous women like film stars, supermodels, socialites and, of course, there’ll be me - the captain - and we’ll be playing with professional basketball teams around the world. American experts from NBA will train us,” said Preity, who stands 5 feet 5 inches tall in her socks but has quite a sporting background. “Nobody knows I’ve been a gymnast for 11 years, I did karate for nine years, I am very good at basketball and I rifle shoot too,” she said, adding, “People said that it was a crazy idea to give one-and-a half years to IPL, but then today, financially, I don’t have to care for the rest of my life.”

Does that mean she won’t do films for money anymore? “Are you kidding? I’m not retiring to the jungles! Of course, money is important. I do charity and all but I still need to wear my brands, travel first class and pamper myself. I believe more in living rich than dying rich. My biggest fear is to die broke, ex-film star,” laughed the bubbly actress who devotes a lot of time to causes like child trafficking and the upliftment of women. /

“I want to do full-on commercial films now,” she said. And for that, she conducted a poll on the net where she asked fans who they would like to see her with. “There’s a tie between Saif Ali Khan and Shah Rukh! I’m going to go in search of them now,” laughed Preity.

Preity Zinta is leaving Bollywood for Harvard

Preity Zinta is leaving Bollywood for B-school. “Yes, I’m going to the Harvard Business School to study a short executive course in negotiating and deal-making,” she says. “I thought that since I spend so much time in the US, I might as well use the experience better. I applied to Harvard and got accepted, so I’m quite kicked about going there next month.”

So does this keen interest in business mean we won’t be seeing her much on the big screen? “Not at all,” she says, “I want to make sure that I can balance acting and business. In fact, I’m currently buried under a pile of scripts and am reading each one to make sure that I don’t miss out on anything good. I want to do a role that I’ve never done before.”

She’s also busy with the television show Behind the Seams which she is hosting and producing. But Zinta admits that she hasn’t watched television for the past two months. “TV soaps have these close-ups of people in dark black kohl and it really scares me,” she says. “Reality shows are also staged, so there’s nothing real in them. So what’s there to watch?” Behind the Seams too is a kind of reality show as it takes you through the journey of the Kings XI Punjab team. “It’s a reality show but there’s no acting involved. It’s about cricketers and you really can’t expect cricketers to start acting,” she laughs.

Call me Miss Charity

Mumbai: Preity Zinta has embarked on two ambitious ventures -- one with Cherie Blair, the wife of former British prime minister Tony Blair, and the other one with Amitabh Bachchan.

Preity will be working with Cherie to provide support to widows in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Africa as part of her association with Loomba Trust, an organisation that works for the welfare of widows and their children. Cherie is the president of the trust.

Preity said, "I attended the charity dinner of the Loomba Trust in England. It provides support to widows and my association with Cherie will be for a longer run as this is a cause that is very close to my heart."

She added, "My father died when I was 13. So, I can imagine the plight of women and children who've lost their husbands and fathers, respectively. We want to educate the children from such families, provide scholarships to them and prevent them from falling prey to the flesh trade."

For her second charity project, she will team up with Amitabh Bachchan, film-maker Firoz Nadiadwala and the United Nations as part of a campaign against human trafficking across the globe.

"Amitabh Bachchan, the UN ambassador, and I will be the faces of this project. We will take up the cause of victims of human trafficking and campaign against it. Flesh trade is a huge industry worldwide and we are looking to put a check on it," she said.

Getting away a bit from her philanthropic work, we veer towards her relationship status.

Is she dating anyone post her break-up with Ness Wadia? She said, "I'm single. It is after many years that I'm single and I am doing all the things that I want to. I know there have been reports saying I was dating someone (Vikram Chatwal) but it was not true. People thought I was in hiding post my break-up, but I'm too strong a person to do that. I agree that things become a bit different when you come out of a relationship, but I'm hungry to work and see my cricket team do well."

Preity has debuted on the virtual space with Twitter due to Karan Johar. "I got to know that I was impersonated by someone who was taking information from my interviews and posting them. But the bad grammar gave me heart attacks. Now, thanks to Karan, I'm on Twitter as the real Preity Zinta. For the first time I'm interacting with my fans," she said.

Small screen gets a big boost

If all goes as planned, soon you might just stop visiting cinema halls to watch your favourite actors singing and dancing on the screen. Buzz is that over the next few months, half a dozen popular celebrities will make their debut and comeback on TV.

After stories that Preity Zinta and Bipasha Basu will host TV shows (a sports based show and an international beauty show, in that order) started doing the rounds, news is that Sanjay Dutt and Sushmita Sen might also make an entry on television, with Raaz Pichle Janam Ka. Sanjay Dutt was expected to host a TV show, which apparently didn’t materialise for reasons best known to the channel and the star. Sushmita Sen, meanwhile, didn’t garner much popularity as a judge on Ek Khiladi Ek Hasina on Colors.

On Raaz Pichle Janam Ka, the stars will be hypnotised and asked questions about their past life. The idea is to find a solution to their present problems. Sen and Dutt have been offered a hefty sum to the tune of half a crore or a crore. However, there’s no confirmation on that now. According to sources, the stars are expected to be amongst the first few participants on the show to get the initial ratings going.

Besides that, Karan Johar will return to the small screen as a host, this time on a show anchored by Yashraj Films, as part of their content deal with Sony Entertainment. The show, Mera Sabse Bada Fan Mera Hero, is expected to start rolling in the last week of November and will go on air in the last week of December or the first week of January. The show will launch a search for the wackiest and the biggest fan of a reigning star.

Meanwhile, the grapevine insists that Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia are apparently being paid Rs 3 crore and Rs 1.5 crore respectively, only to enter the Bigg Boss 3 house. Kapadia is rumoured to be charging between Rs 50 to 60 lakh per day. The reason she’s still undecided on the show is that sister Simple, who’s unwell, is bedridden. But if she agrees to appear on the show, and the couple last for more than two weeks, individually, they will make more money than Amitabh Bachchan on the show. Apparently, Big B is being paid only Rs 1.5 crore per episode. Now, that’s something that one needs to go figure!
