Preity Zinta Second INNINGS

There is a strong buzz that Preity Zinta will be part of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.

Preity Zinta on her team Kings XI Punjab being ousted out of IPL by the BCCI, her high-profile business and more.

What was your first reaction when you heard about your team Kings XI Punjab being ousted from IPL?
I am still absorbing the news. After working so hard in the IPL and putting my everything in building this team, this is not what I expected. I am shocked.

But there were a lot of reports about you selling off your team.
There have been speculations galore since the past two years about me selling my team. But I really didn’t want to talk about my business so I didn’t say anything except that I was always going to continue being there.

What about your cricket-based series Behind The Seams?
The series is not going to come out immediately, it will take time. It is part of a long process and we are working on it.

What is the best thing about being a businesswoman?
The boardroom meetings and the challenges of working on various strategies to boost the business are all very exciting.

Which businessmen do you idolise?
I look up to Mukesh and Anil Ambani, Ratan Tata and Vijay Mallya because of the way they have taken their businesses to another level.

What is it that you don’t like about being a businesswoman?
When I am acting, I only have to worry about me, but when it comes to my business I have to worry about everything, from every member of my team, to the costumes and promotions. It can get very stressful and I missed the easy-going life of an actress. So here I am.

So what are you working on presently?
My weight! I had put on so much weight and I am busy trying to knock it off with a healthy diet and workouts!

Have you signed any films?
I do have some films coming up but I would rather wait till everything is on paper. I had taken some time off and now that I have decided that I want to act it will take a little time before anything is finalized.

What about your film Har Pal?
It’s a beautiful film and I hope it releases soon.

You are very active socially. Which cause is closest to your heart?
I try to do what I can for underprivileged women and children. I have adopted 34 girls in Rishikesh and look after their every need. God has given me so much that I want to give something back in my own small way.

The news that Preity Zinta will be doing a Yash Raj film has been doing the rounds for a long time now. And now there is a strong buzz that the actress will be a part of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan –– the YRF project starring Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif directed by debutant director Ali Abbas Zafar.

Preity’s father sings praises

Some months ago Shandaar Amrohi, son the late film-maker Kamaal Amrohi, announced to the world that he had adopted Preity Zinta.

Guess the foster father does have a role in his star-daughter's world. For Shandaar is now a regular at Preity's events. The other day the dimpled actress was having a special screening of her Shiney Ahuja film Har Pal. And papa Shandaar was present at the preview theatre.

Of course Shandaar wouldn't miss an opportunity to say hello to all the shutterbugs and journalists who were hanging around the theatre waiting to get some celebrity bytes and photos. And we hear Shandaar was singing accolades about Preity to all those who would lent him an ear. Good PR machinery at work.

Preity Zinta to address the Oxford Union

The best of East and West will meet in the UK by the end of this month as one of India's hottest talents addresses the Oxford Union, the world's most prestigious debating society.

One of Indian cinema's leading ladies and the star of over 30 films, Preity Zinta will answer questions from Oxford students on her experience of being a part of the world's largest film industry and an iconic figure in a male-dominated business.

Preity Zinta is considered as a role model to many who aspire to achieve success through hard work and honesty. Zinta is the latest in a long list of prominent speakers to have visited the Oxford Union, which has also hosted former Prime Minister Winston Churchill, as well as current Prime Minister David Cameron, US Presidents Reagan and Nixon, the Dalai Lama, Stephen Hawking and Mother Teresa. The Union is no stranger to the world of entertainment either, claiming Michael Jackson, Natalie Portman, Pierce Brosnan, Clint Eastwood and Martin Sheen as past speakers.

When asked about the upcoming visit, Zinta said that she is very excited at the prospect of speaking at such a prestigious debating society.

Ash Sangha, Vice President of the Oxford Union, who was responsible for inviting Preity Zinta, commented, "I am very excited to be welcoming Preity Zinta to speak here at the Oxford Union Society this coming October. She is quite simply a global superstar. Throughout nearly 200 years of history, the Oxford Union has heard from high profile figures who are the leading lights in their field, and Preity's film roles, and her deep commitment to causes beyond cinema, such as cricket, journalism and philanthropy have captured the imagination of the watching world. Her charity work for the Loomba Foundation is very close to her heart as well her determination to stop Human Trafficking especially of children and young women. "As much loved for her un-moderated honesty as her career high points, I know that our members here in Oxford cannot wait to have the chance to meet her and hear from her," said Sangha.

Sallu to launch Being Human watches, tees

This is one fashion coup only Salman Khan could have pulled off. On Saturday, Bollywood's leading beauties including Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji, Karisma Kapur and Sushmita Sen will keep their professional rivalries aside and step onto the ramp for his Being Human show at the HDIL India Couture Week 2010.

This will be a kick-ass, glitzy event with tremendous emphasis on fashion. Salman will be the only man walking alongside the beauties (unlike last year when the Khan-daan waved to the audience sporting fundu jackets and jhintak belts). Anaita Shroff Adjania has conceptualised the show in which each actress will depict a decade in fashion. With film clips and magazine shots splashed on the backdrop, the 'heroine of the decade' will step up the tempo in some Indian and Western ensembles backed by groovy musical scores.

It's predominantly a women's wear show with collections by Manish Malhotra, Raakesh Agarvwal, Gauri and Nainika, Sunaina Puri, Rohit and Rahul. Salman's philanthropic work attracted Forevermark, the diamond brand from DeBeers, which is providing jewellery for the show contributing to the foundation.

On Saturday, Salman will also launch his watch collection at the HDIL India Couture Week and two weeks later, the Being Human T-shirts in Indian and international markets.

Salman's leading ladies to walk for him

Salman Khan gets most of his leading ladies to walk ramp for his charity, Being Human
PS: The Dabangg star and buddy, Aamir Khan will be the only guys in tow

After getting an all-guy gang of fellow actors to walk at his Being Human show last year, Salman Khan has now

requested his leading ladies, among a few other actresses to scorch the catwalk this time.

The all-girl brigade will walk the ramp at a fashion showing hosted by Salman Khan and his sister Alvira Agnihotri at the LFW on October 9. The proceeds from the show will go to Salman's NGO, Being Human.

The success of last year's show (see box) is seen as reason enough to sign on to be a part of the charity event, and ergo, be in the man's good books.

Alvira and Salman have sent out personal invites to Khan's leading ladies and they have responded almost instantly.

Here's what you can expect...

THE THEME: Changing fashion trends over time as showcased by outfits that symbolise various eras.

CONFIRMED: Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu, Asin, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji.

IN TALKS: With Sushmita Sen, Vidya Balan, Deepika Padukone and Ameesha Patel.

PATCH-WORK:
> "Though Katrina and Salman are no longer together, she continues to be friends with Baby (Alvira) and Bhai (Salman). They asked her and she immediately agreed."
> Priyanka, who also had issues with her Mujhse Shaadi Karoge co-star will be specially flying down from the UK for a day to walk the ramp for him.
> Bipasha patched up with the actor during an awards event held earlier this year. "They are good buddies now," reveals our source.
> Bebo is doing the show despite reports of her not getting along with Khan during the shooting of Main Aurr Mrs Khanna.

STRANGELY: Khan's Dabangg heroine Sonakshi Sinha hasn't been confirmed as yet. Also Malaika Arora Khan, Salman sis-in-law and the Munni of the moment won't be walking the ramp with him. Says the source, "The show will feature only Bhai's leading ladies, so Baby and he haven't even asked Malaika."
PHIR SE: There will be no showstopper. The girls will walk with Salman and Aamir for the grand finale. The ensembles have been designed for free and will be auctioned off later.

THE DRAW: The Kapoor sisters -- Karisma and Kareena -- will walk together. Salman and Aamir will be the only guys walking with the gals.

RESIDENT DESIGNERS: Manish Malhotra will design the only two Indian outfits -- for Lolo and Rani. The rest have been sourced or designed by stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania.

COUNT ME OUT: Though invited, Shilpa Shetty can't attend because she will be in London attending a family event.

LAST YEAR
In 2009, Salman put together an all-male cast for the Being Human Fashion Show. The men who walked the ramp included Ajay Devgn, Aamir Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, Sohail Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Govinda. It was the first time Aamir modelled for a show and took to the ramp. This year as well, the actor will be present to show support to his friend, Salman.
