Sohail Khan : Salman Is Not Buying Any IPL Team!

From the last couple of days, the news channels are going ballistic with the breaking news about Salman Khan being the next Bollywood personality (After Preity Zinta, Shah Rukh Khan-Juhi Chawla and Shilpa Shetty) who will buy an IPL team. There also live SMS surveys going around on channels to gauge the public mood!

However, that is far from the truth. When we contacted Salman's brother, Sohail Khan, through a TV journalist, Sohail said clearly " Salman bhai is not buying any IPL team. He did meet the IPL Commissioner, Lalit Modi, and enquired about the involved costs and procedures for becoming an IPL franchisee. But there are chances that he (Salman) may become the brand ambasador of one of the teams."

You've seen Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor come together in the past but they haven't managed to create too much hype onscreen as a couple. However, come this Diwali the duo will come together again in debutante Prem Soni's much awaited and talked about Main Aur Mrs Khanna. Shot prominently in Australia and based on the theme of love and marriage, this one is already being slated for one to watch out for. The teasers are already out and have managed to create much hype regarding its unique treatment and storyline. Prem Soni, a firm believer of love, has bravely taken on the thesis of love and holy matrimony, added modern ideas of marriage to come up with a different and yet relatable film. What made your venture into directing after working with STAR India?

Yes, I've been with them for sixteen years. I started working in 1994, and I always wanted to be a director but there is always a time and space for everything I guess. I was in the process of realizing and discovering myself. I started off with writing though; that's my forte. And the next step to that was obviously directing. And I really wanted to because there were too many imaginations and visualizations in my mind that were always running. So that really pushed me to direction.

What is your previous experience in direction and your relationship with Hindi films?

Well, I had directed a lot of television serials before but with films this is my first time. But yes, I am a big fan of Hindi films! A big fan! I love the drama, the glamour, the gloss and even the complications.

Tell us about how you managed to rope in Salman Khan to be a part of Main Aur Mrs. Khanna.

It was actually not that difficult honestly. I think he was also looking for a script, which would actually impress him. I happen to meet him through a common friend a couple of years back. I had a small little chat with him about films and something happened, and he said that if I had a script for him, I should go him. So I was like cool, whenever I would have a script, I would. Two years later, I wrote a script. And I just thought that he would be good for it so I had gone to go meet him when he was shooting for Partner. I told him I have a script and asked him if he had the time to hear it. And he said of course I would hear it but I don’t have the dates to start a film soon for the next three years. So I told him to hear it and if he liked it, we could obviously talk about it. I didn't have any other star and I had been struggling for years. And I told him if he said okay, I would wait for three years. I think he liked my honesty and up-frontness and he heard the script without any interruption, loved it and said 'How can I say no to this script? This is one of the most wonderful scripts I've heard'.

Without giving too much away, what is the premise of the film?

It's a very simple film - its romance of course; but intermingled with marriage obviously being a strong point in the film. It's about love versus career; about a man and a woman. The man prefers to head towards career to make his life, would a woman give that space if she had to? Would she allow him to make his career and then come back to his love? Or would she say no, you give me what I need and let's walk together and make a choice. It's about relationships in today's world; marriage in today's world. It's really difficult to have a happy marriage - but Main Aur Mrs Khanna talks about the positive sides of marriage and not the negative. It talks about togetherness and how to support each other in their own way. Obviously a man needs to be successful to live his life happily with a woman.

And how did you come up with the idea for the script?

I had seen a lot of marriages in India and abroad, everywhere. It's not a copy of any English script or any European film; it's completely original. It's taken from incidents from people I've seen around me and their relationships. It's very difficult to keep marriage but it's not so complicated as people make it. It's a very real film with wit in place - but very down and simple. There is nothing complicated, like I said, about the film.

There were many rumors afloat regarding the lead actress. Everyone from Preity Zinta to Ayesha Takia and even Lara Dutta. Then you finally zeroed in on Kareena Kapoor.

Yes! (Laughs) That's true. I've known Kareena for a long time now even before the film—we were good friends. The idea was to get somebody who can pull off this character. It's a very difficult role to portray because it's very subtle. There is nothing dramatic or in-your-face in the film. But there is a lot of underplayed emotions and performance. So we needed someone who had the age right, the experience right, and who is ready to take that chance that could be difficult for her to pull off. We had a lot of meetings with a lot of actresses but fortunately or unfortunately we couldn't get through the right one. And Bebo was actually perfect. She was the best contender for the film and believe me the kind of performance she has given as Mrs. Khanna, the title role, she's unbelievable. She is one of the finest actresses in India today. She is just a treat.

The film has been slotted in the romance genre. How is the chemistry of Kareena and Salman together onscreen?

Well it's not a Shah Rukh [Khan] - Kajol kind of chemistry - there is no heat here. It's very sweet, like Shahid [Kapoor] and Kareena were in Jab We Met. This is obviously not the same but it's on the lines of Hum Tum, Jab We Met. So they have a very sweet understanding in the film. It's not about candyfloss on a frivolous level or laughing and clapping with one another.

What can you tell us about the music of the film? We haven't heard anything about it just yet. When is it out?

The music should be releasing around September 10th and the teasers are already out. The first theatrical teaser was out with Kaminey. And the television promotions should start end of this month. The music is very much a part of the film. It's not the kind of film that you would start dancing to because it's not the typical Hindi film music that just comes in between without any reason. For our film, the music helps take the film forward, like most great films have. I would say India makes so many great films, where songs play an important part of the film and take the story forward. So, I've also followed the same pattern - the music is a part of the film; it's not just music, there is a lot of story involved.

How hard or easy is it to direct the likes of Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor in your debutante film?

I think if you know your job, it's pretty easy. If you don't know your job, it's the most difficult place to be! You know eventually at the end of the day, working with superstars like Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor, the only worry is that whatever you tell them should be delivered to them. The director is the captain of the ship, so when you narrate a script, they have to be confident of you to pull it off the way you have actually promised to do so. If you do that, they are sweethearts! They wouldn't give you a problem at all. They are looking for professionalism completely. It's something that we all want to do; if you promise them sky, moon and stars, you must deliver. Personally I had a beautiful time making the film with Salman, Kareena and Sohail because there was no friction, there was no debates or any fights. There was just positive energy running on our sets all the time, which definitely reflects, onscreen. So, I feel all of them have worked with so much positivity, that it will surely exude onscreen; I am sure about that. I wouldn't say I have a great film on-hand, I would say I have a very sweet film on-hand. It's a very heartfelt film.

That's very modest of you!

Yeah, honestly we are not here to make great films. We can't make great films. But we can make a good film. This is a story that I feel people would be interested in seeing. And somewhere down the line, your heart will start beating at some level in the film and say, oh this so beautiful and so true.

How were UTV (Ronnie Screwvala) and Sohail Khan as producers?

I interacted a lot with Sohail Khan Productions a lot because they were my home production in the film. With experience, he is one of the finest producers you can work with because he knows the trade in-and-out. His experience does help a new director. He's a director dream and gave me whatever I asked for with no clashes, no problems at all, no discussions. He was so chilled out always.

Who are some actors that will be making a special appearance in the film?

Yes, there are a few but they are supposed to be surprises! (Laughs)

Why did you choose to shoot a large chunk of the film in Australia?

To be very precise about it, the film is largely to be shot at an airport because there is a lot of the story at the airport. I was looking for a place or a location where I could get an actual international airport beyond immigration to film. And that was getting very difficult for me all across the globe of tight security post 9/11. They don’t allow filming at the airport essentially for long periods. I needed it for twenty-nine days, which was next to impossible. I was not very happy about constructing a set of an airport because I believe a set is a set; it doesn't give you the real feel. And I wanted the real deal. So the Australian Consul was extremely helpful. They extended their right hand forward and they gave us whatever we needed. Plus Melbourne is a gorgeous city, so I got everything in one. I got Victoria Tourism to help me get the airport - we shot at Melbourne International Airport for twenty days and then we got all the stunning locations, the beaches, history in Melbourne. So it was a dream come true.

What was your experience like at the Cannes Film Festival?

It was fantastic! This was my first to the Cannes and obviously being a first time director, my film has not yet released but I got some exposure to watching so many great films, meeting so many great people. It was just very nice. I would like to go back every year because you get to know so much more about cinema.

Any idea as to what you will be doing after Main Aur Mrs. Khanna?

Yeah, I have a script I am working on for sure. It's again romance - I do believe in romance largely. Main Aur Mrs Khanna is a sweet romantic story and the other one is a witty one.

And lastly, any message for your audiences about Main and Mrs. Khanna?

If you are really looking for a heartfelt story, or a heartwarming film, please do watch it because I promise you, at the end of it you will say, it's a sweet film.

Will be a good IPL owner: Salman

Mumbai, Aug 29 (IBNS) Bollywood actor Salman Khan Saturday said he is keen to own a franchise at Indian Premier League (IPL) season three.

“I am serious about buying a team and have already met IPL chairman Lalit Modi over this,” said Khan.

Asked if he is an ardent cricket fan, he told NDTV, “I don’t follow cricket, but I will make a good team owner.”

However, Khan said his bidding for a team is ‘no way’ linked to his ‘rivalry’ with actorand Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) owner Shah Rukh Khan.

IPL will add 2 new teams to its existing 8 from the 2010 season. If Khan cracks the deal, he too will be seen cheering for his team like other Bollywod actors Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty.

However, it’s not just Khan, who has shown interest in buying a team for Twenty20. Actors Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan are reportedly eyeing a team each in the next IPL.

Mumbai: Bollywood's one of the most sought out actress Katrnina Kaif has agreed to do item number in Ashtavinayak's Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar starrer, ‘Blue'.

According to sources the actress received an astonishing amount of 1.5 crores for just one dance. With this new price the prestigious new name for item number has become ‘hot and sensational dance number'.

She is not the only actress of her stature to have agreed to do an item number. The other ladies have also jumped into the wagon for performing ‘hot and sensational' dance numbers. Even Preity Zinta has agreed to do a dance number in Salman Khan-Kareena Kapoor starrer, ‘Mr And Mrs Khanna'.

It wouldn't come as a surprise if other top actresses would be seen performing doing hot numbers for an equally high fee.

August 25, 2009, (Sawf News) - UTV has released a theatrical trailer for debutant Prem Soni helmed romance drama, Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, starring Salman Khan, Suhail Khan and Kareena Kapoor.

The film revolves around the theme of extramarital affair but is an intensely romantic film. Kareena Kapoor, who plays a housewife in the film, says Salman has not done a pure love story like this before.

Samir Khanna (Salman) and Raina Khanna (Kareena) have a fairytale marriage, Samir gets a dream job and they both have a great life...all they could ever want! Until one wrong decision leads them to part ways, maybe forever!

The film, a joint production of UTV and Suhail Khan Productions, was shot in Mumbai, Dubai and Melbourne over a period of one year from March 2008 to March 2009.

Preity Zinta makes a special appearance in a song.

Bappi Lehari plays a NRI tycoon in the film and has also sung two songs for the film.

The music is scored by Sajid-Wajid. Manish Malhotra was Kareena's stylist for the film, due in theaters on October 16, 2009.

Despite excellent lead Bollywood film drags

(5) HEAVEN ON EARTH with Preity Zinta, Balinder Johal and Vansh Bhardwaj, directed by Deepa Mehta (Uptown Theatres). Reviewed by Mogan Segadavan

IF you are looking for a Bollywood song and dance movie, Heaven on Earth will disappoint. There isn’t even any background music.

The film by Mehta, whose previous film was the outstanding Water, is based on a young woman with a university degree who becomes a victim of domestic violence in a abusive arranged marriage.

Preity Zinta plays Chand, an Indian who finds herself trying to adjust to marriage in the unfamiliar surrounds of Canada where her new world turns into a nightmare.

She is cut off from her family by husband Rocky (Vansh Bhardwa) who beats her up. Her mother-in-law (Balinder Johal) is an ogre.

Chand is forced to work at a laundry for a meagre salary that is paid directly to her husband. She befriends Rosa (Yanna McIntosh), a tough Jamaican who gives her a magical root which will supposedly cause Rocky to fall helplessly in love with her.

While the beautiful Zinta (who was recently in PE for the IPL Twenty20 cricket tournament) gives an excellent performance and the scenes of domestic abuse are suitably horrific, the film is slow, and seems to drag on for ever.

The film is in Punjabi with English subtitles.

Days after ,sitting in her 14th floor sea facing office in Bandra ,Preity was picture of sincerity and calm .Above all she radiated a confidence that announced that she was completely in charge of her life .”This my time and I’m going to hold on to it,” she announced with a smile .The four week holiday in Los angles ,London and Paris has worked it’s magic. Lighter in spirit , the only excess luggage “ she had returned was courtesy her shopping spree in Paris.

Spend in the company of loved ones ,the holiday was the perfect antidote to exhaustion and recent pressures .With the break ,Preity had gracefully turned her back on a series of troubling reports .Some were minor irritants like tales of romance with high profile New work –based Vikram Chatwal,Aussie cricketer Brett Lee as well as her Kings XI Punjab team captain and old time pal Yuvraj Singh.But all these paled in comparison with confirmation of the news that she and long time steady companion , Ness Wadia had broken up.

Even before the start of the second IPL season in April season in April this year ,there were talks of cracks in their relationship.Preity went solo at the Filmfare Awards on Feb 28 and the Lakme Fashion week the following month .During the IPL in South Africa ,the couple was rarely spotted together .During matches ,Preity would sit by herself either an the reserved box or in the dug-out while Ness would play with their guests.On rare occasions when they were at the same venue for team events ,Preity and Ness would keep their distance

“Shagun and I have been friends since school but we’ve never gone on a holiday together .She lives in New Delhi so I stay with her when I’m there .This year she was in London with her sons Adhiraj and Suryavir while I was vacationing there.”After spending few days in Hotel ,Preity moved in with Shagun .”I was sharing a bathroom with Adhiraj.Both of us listen to music on our Laptops while we brush. Who would have thought?” she says with laugh.

One night the BFFs desided to play DJ,exchanging music and burning individual CDs .And while they chose those tracks and burn them ,the duo remembered the band they wanted to form in school.”Ofcourse ,it never happened because neither of us could sing nor play instruments, before burst out laughing .

Before joining Shagun in London in Preity spend week with her brother Manish and he four-year-old niece Maya in L.A.”When I landed in L.A,I was so exhausted .For the first couple of days I was holed up up in my hotel room.I would just order room service ,watch movies on-demand and asleep.My perfect holiday involves sleeping a lot.”
Once she had gotten over jet lag and nad her full of movies ,Preity spend some quality time with Maya .”We would play games together .I would be monster chasing her through the house .We make up songs and she enjoy shopping with me “

Preity kept her phone switched off while she enjoyed her vacation, but now she‘s back it has been ringing off the hook.” There is so much work .On the cricket front, there will be post-IPL analysis ,I have dubbing left for Main aur Mrs Khanna ,which should release this year, as should Har pal. I’m listening to new scripts and should start shooting from October .And I’m working on some ventures outside of cricket and movies.”

Preity has always believed that life is pre-destined .So, Whether it’s her career or personal life ,she has never planned too muchin advance .”I’m the moat spontaneous person on the planet.I believe everhing happens for the best.I always find a reason to do what I want to do .Very rarely have I regretted a decision .”

So,Preity has ’no regrets about her relationship with Ness’.”Love is unconditional, through it is difficult to be completely unconditional .A relationship is about two person making small compromise to be together. I don’t have any regrets about my relationship with Ness .Thank god it was fantastic relationship and we had great time together.”

Now that Preity is back on the singles block, she is enjoying her new status .I haven’t been single for long time so it feels different but a good different .You compromise a lot of things that complete you as a person .As a singleton ,you get back to being you .It almost like reintroducing to yourself.” Being single has also shuffled her priorities .”Work and friends tend to suffer when you are in a relationship.”
She might be single but that doesn’t mean that Preity doesn’t think about of marriage and motherhood .” I have always maintained that I want to get married when I want to have kids .And that day I feel that ,hopefully everthing falls into place ,”she says ,crossing her fingers.”I want to take my time ,be prepared before take the plunge.I want marriage to last forever and I want secure family.”

But for now Preity is happy having her own space.”I’m in a very good space right now .I’m not one of those people who needs to constantly be with someone .Contary to rumours I’m neither breaking people’s marriages nor I am heartbroken and licking my wounds .I’m very happy and confident with myself today.”

Salman still takes pocket money: Farah

Director and choreographer Farah Khan is ready to take on her new role as chat show host. Her show Tere Mere Beach Mein gets celebs and the ‘aam aadmi’ together for entertainment packaged with a social message.

Says Farah, “I had been getting offers for such shows for a long time, but I wanted to do something meaningful. I wasn’t keen on doing a typical celeb show also because it has already been done quite well by Karan (Johar, who hosted Koffee With Karan) and Simi (Garewal).”

The director, who has the A-list of Bollywood as her close friends, admits, “For the first season, the channel was keen to get celebs as this would get the show more attention … and I guess this will help us pass on the social message too more effectively.”

Viewers can look forward to watching several celebrities on the show, like Bipasha Basu, Shilpa Shetty, Shahid Kapoor, Genelia D’Souza, Salman Khan and of course, her favourite producer, actor and pal Shah Rukh Khan. But, with a twist! Each show comes with a theme where the celebs are put on the same platform as the common man.

Farah explains, “Shilpa and Bipasha are daughters who have taken on the responsibilities of their families, traditionally a son’s role. With them, we had a girl from a chawl, who is working to pay off her father’s debts even as her two brothers do nothing to help.”

Genelia and Shahid, stars who got a second shot at shining on the Bollywood marquee with Jaane Tu.. and Jab We Met respectively, come in the segment on “second chances” and were accompanied by a paraplegic who had built himself a car which he could race on the tracks without using his legs. “Genelia was so moved that she broke down and we had to halt shooting till she recovered,” reveals the newbie host.

And while Sonam Kapoor and Karan Johar come on the “weight” issue, as individuals who successfully lost tons of weight, Kareena Kapoor will feature in a segment where she talks about boyfriend Saif Ali Khan, and falling in love with someone from another religious community. Priyanka Chopra and boxer Vijender make an appearance as “small-town” folk who hit the big league.

The show will unveil a never-seen-before side to the stars, promises Farah. For instance, in Salman’s segment, we get to know how Bollywood’s superbrat is still a mama’s boy and chooses to lives in a one-bedroom apartment so that he can live next door to his mom. His father also tells us that the actor falls in love with actresses and then tries to find his mother in them!

The star, who is known to be generous to a fault, having recently been in the news for handing out Rs 25,000 to a beggar, also regularly runs out of money. Farah shares, “Salman is constantly distributing his money to help others and then finally ends up taking pocket money from his parents!”

The segment with Shah Rukh has him make an appearance with his mother-in-law and shows him for the “joru ka gulaam” that he is! “People will see him as a regular guy who also has a mother-in-law like anyone else … on the show, he gives tips to the ‘ordinary’ man on how to stand up to his wife,” says Farah.

And, is husband Shirish Kunder a ‘joru ka gulaam’ too? Contrary to popular perception, she emphatically states, “While a lot of our decisions are jointly taken, Shirish is quite dominating.”

She’s nonchalant, though, on how she manages to manage triplets and a new show, “The show required me to shoot for barely two months for 13 episodes.”

NEW DELHI — Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan said Tuesday he will cut back on visits to the United States, especially with his family, after he was questioned by immigration officials at a New York-area airport.

Khan was taken aside at Newark’s Liberty International Airport on Friday for what officials said was routine questioning. They denied he was formally detained, saying the incident lasted barely more than an hour and was prolonged only because his bag had been lost by the airline.

But the questioning set off outrage in India, where politicians, sports celebrities and film stars regularly receive VIP treatment at airports. Angry fans burned a U.S. flag and protested what they saw as ill-treatment of a beloved star, and politicians called for an investigation.

The Muslim actor was promoting his latest film, “My Name is Khan,” about racial profiling after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Khan told reporters Tuesday after returning to Mumbai that the incident had been “blown out of proportion.” But he said the questioning — which included requests for the names of people who could vouch for him — embarrassed him.

He said he will travel to the U.S. less frequently.

“Of course I will visit the U.S. if I have to go for my work. But I will go less often. If I have three things to do, I will club them together and go just once,” he said. “And certainly, I wouldn’t like to travel with my family to the U.S.”

Khan, 44, appealed to fans to stop protesting.

“Let’s put this behind us, think positively and move ahead,” he told fans during a news conference.

Khan has acted in around 70 movies in a career spanning two decades. He has consistently topped popularity rankings in India for the past several years.

10. Jodhaa Akbar – Ashutosh Gowariker’s gargantuan epic based on Mughal emperor Akbar’s life and his relationship with his Hindu wife Jodhaabai costed about 40 crores. Elaborate sets, huge war scenes and Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai as stars push the budget upwards.

9. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham – Karan Johar’s multi star studded film had Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, SRK, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor. The film was shot in the US and UK, apart from India, and with designer wear and huge sets, it was one of the most expensive movies made during its time. It had a budget of about 42 crores.

8. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna – Karan Johar again, this time minus Kareena, Hrithik, Kajol but including Rani Mukherji, Abhishek Bachchan and Priety Zinta made the whole of his movie in his favourite location, Manhattan, in New York. Thus, the budget was bound to shoot up just like the New York skyscrapers, to about 44 crores. Though the film did not much on the lines of a story, it did have a good music score, always a presence in a Karan Johar movie.

7. Om Shanti Om – Farah Khan's comical and over-the-top take on Bollywood was a colorful extravaganza filled with technical mastery. With SRK and Deepika in lead roles, the film was famous for its songs (the one with 31 stars from the film industry) and its reincarnation theme. It cost about 45 crores, out of which a large chunk must have surely been allotted to the publicity campaign, which was extensive.

6. Singh is Kinng – Vipul Shah’s comedy flick involving a happy go lucky sardar was shot entirely at foreign locations, with some reverts to India. The hit jodi of Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar spelled magic at the box office. Snoop Dogg also sung a song for the film, which costed about 50 crores.

5. Krrish – Rakesh Roshan’s sequel to Koi Mil Gaya was replete with stunts and special effects. The film also involved a lot of foreign shoots and was packaged by special effects people brought in from Hollywood. This Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra starrer cost about 50 crores.

4. The Hero: Love Story of a Spy -This Anil Sharma film had Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta, and Sunny Deol was the most expensive film of its time. It did quite a decent amount of business, given the performances and the plot was nothing to brag about. It cost about 55 crores.

3. Kambakht Ishq – Mind-numbing storyline (or the lack of it), below the belt jokes, Hollywood stars with no roles to play but eye candy, and vulgar show of skin characterized this movie. But the shooting was in exotic locales and the start studded cast and the hugely extensive (and forceful) publicity campaign ensured that the budget touched 60 crores.

2. Ghajini – Aamir Khan’s remake of the smash South Indian movie made huge profits for him, raking in about 180 crores in revenue. The movie itself is a really bad remake of the awesomely made Memento. The movie cost about 65 crores, which will surely include the nationwide PR programme, which also involved some bizarre concepts like giving the signature Ghajini haircut outside theaters and the war of words between SRK and Aamir.

Harry Baweja's launch vehicle for his son Harman, was packed with blue sets, special effects and a robot called QT (who proved to be a better actor than Harman). We saw him dance (Harman that is), we saw him trying to act and we saw Priyanka Chopra in red hair. The film promised to be a sci-fi extravaganza but turned out to be a damp squid. But it cost daddy Harry a whopping 80 crores.

It’s ‘Rishta.com’ for which Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee are being considered. But this is not a film, instead a comedy show that too by Yashraj Films for small screen. While everything is being kept hush-hush, the news is that Yashraj Films are venturing into television with a bang and all their friends and allies will be part of this tele-series which is supposed to start from October this year. Others who are likely to do cameos are Ritesh Deshmukh, Tabu, Uday Chopra and Jugal Hansraj. And to make the show successful, YRF has already spoken to these stars and reports are that some have happily agreed to do special appearance.

‘Rishta.com’ is about a matrimony office through which various couples meet and tie the knot. It’s a comedy and Yashraj has plans to launch fresh faces with it. According to a source, YRF has various concepts for television and they have already started working on some. They will announce after things are finalized. It’s learnt that the rehearsal schedule, costumes and the look for the show have been decided and the show will be directed by Rishabh Seth. Well, this is happening for the first time that an established Bollywood production house is trying its luck in television, contrary to others like UTV and Balaji who have shifted their focus to producing movies after a successful stint on small screen.

Report says Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan detained for questioning at US airport

NEW DELHI — Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was detained for two hours for questioning at a U.S. airport before being released by immigration authorities, a news agency report said Saturday.

Khan, one of the Indian film industry’s biggest stars, said he was detained because his name came up on a computer alert list at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, Press Trust of India news agency said.

“I told them I am a movie star,” Khan was quoted as saying.

The reported detention made top news on TV stations in India.

Khan said he was able to message a lawmaker in India who asked the Indian embassy in Washington to seek his release. Khan was let go after embassy officials intervened, the agency said.

Jen Friedberg, a spokeswoman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport, said the agency did not request that Khan be detained.

In New Delhi, U.S. Ambassador to India, Timothy J. Roemer, said the U.S. Embassy was trying to “ascertain the facts of the case — to understand what took place.”

“Shah Rukh Khan, the actor and global icon, is a very welcome guest in the United States. Many Americans love his films,” Roemer said Saturday through an embassy spokesman.

Khan, 44, has acted in more than 70 films, and has consistently topped popularity rankings in India for the past several years. He is in the United States to promote his new film, “My Name Is Khan.”

Akshay Kumar – The new King of Bollywood

Akshay Kumar nickname Akki real name Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia born on September 9, 1967 is an Top Indian Bollywood film actor. He is now the top most Bollywood actor. Akki was born in Amritsar (Punjab). After a couple of months of modelling, Kumar was finally offered a lead role by producer Pramod Chakravarthy for the movie Deedar.

Preity Zinta's sports show debut

DIMPLED beauty Preity Zinta is believed to be making her small screen debut by hosting a sports show.

The show, which will be produced by Siddharth Basu's Synergy Adlabs, will give the actress a career boost.

Preity takes a keen interest in sports and is the co-owner of the team Kings XI Punjab.

Preity's show will even feature players of IPL fame ‘King's Eleven' team and will telecast on the weekends.

Preity swings in New York

Earlier this week, Preity Zinta left for New York where she had spent almost a month till the first week of July.

While buzz doing the rounds is that she has gone to recover from her break- up with Ness Wadia, fact is that Preity has gone to NY to learn swing dancing.

A source said, “Preity had earlier attended swing dancing classes for a few days and has again gone to NY to continue learning. Apart from swing dancing, she also wants to learn some other forms of dancing in the US. Moreover, she also has work, which is related to some of the future projects she is considering.”
